Wear and tear begin to show up in asphalt structures after years of traffic and environmental changes. Resulting in cracks, potholes, and uneven sections that can pose a safety hazard. Ignored, the asphalt layer deteriorates further which only increases the scale of repair and costs.

Consistent repairs and maintenance may seem troublesome when you first get into the habit of it. However, in the long run it saves money and time when compared to full scale asphalt pavement installations and services.

Here are some of the types of patchwork and repairs we do, to help keep your asphalt structure hazard free.

Crack Sealing / Crack Sealing

Crack Sealing (interchangeable with “crack sealing”) is the forefront of all asphalt maintenance work. Asphalt begins it’s aging process the moment it is set, especially when exposed to constant weather changes. As the asphalt hardens and the important binders that help expand asphalt under pressure begin to dry out, small hairline cracks begin to form within the structure.

As time goes on, water will eventually seep into the structure eroding the aggregate base underneath, causing the cracks to widen and grow deeper. If you can treat the cracks early, you can avoid having to go through pricier repair options. Crack Sealing is asphalt emulsion used to fill in cracks to prevent the entrance of water into the asphalt structure.

Types of Cracks

Cracks come in all types of sizes and depth when it comes to asphalt pavements.

Some examples include:

  • Block cracks – Large, spaced-out cracks that measure from 4-12 feet.
  • Reflective Cracks – These are cracks formed because of displacements in the aggregate sub-base.
  • Longitudinal cracks – Usually found on roads and streets, longitudinal cracks run parallel to the paved surface’s centerline.
  • Fatigue Cracking (AKA, Alligator/Crocodile Cracking) – Small cracks that form an interconnected network resembling an alligator’s hide.
  • Seam cracks – Cracks, either large or small, that form along the pavement’s seams.

Pothole Patching

An asphalt surface littered with potholes reduces the integrity and strength of your driveway, drive-in lanes, or parking lot. A damaged asphalt pavement causes damage to vehicles and other wheeled machinery running over it.

Advance Asphalt, Inc. is here to offer prompt, and quality fixes for your pothole problem. We’ll cut out the asphalt surrounding the pothole for a defined cut-out, then clean the surface and apply a tack coat to ensure that the new asphalt layer clings to the sub-base beneath it. After leveling out the new asphalt with the old, your pothole problem is no more.
